Week Eighty Six

Elder Larsen, Elder Clifford and Elder De Los Reyes
"We all bought cool shirts with hand sewn designs in them."

Honestly, I don't have that much to say this week.

We had lots of great opportunities to work this week and we saw lots of miracles. I think one of the greatest experiences that I had this week was on Sunday. Sunday morning at church we found out that the sister who was going to feed us had left on vacation and wouldn't be able to give us any food to eat that day. I think in the past I would have worried a bunch and gotten a little mad but I don't know it just wasn't really important to me. I was fasting as well so I figured that I would just have an extra large fast or something like that. But then in the afternoon out of nowhere an awesome member called us and asked us if we had eaten that day. We said no and she told us to come to her house and eat. It was a super awesome miracle because she just felt prompted out of nowhere to check up on us. No one had told her she just knew. For me that was a testimony that the Lord is watching out for us, and that He really completes all of His promises that He has made with us. Super crazy stuff.

Other than that we are just working crazy hard here in Uruapan. Lots of days when I get home I'm almost falling asleep during the daily planning session haha. Lots of scribbles and spanglish in my journal haha. I feel happy and this week I will be dedicating my studies to the importance of the Christlike attribute of Love. What place does love have in missionary work, in service, etc.

Other than that I hope everyone is super happy and that all is well back home.

Have a good week everyone!!

Week Eighty Five

(Thank you to Sister Egginton for sharing this picture on the mission facebook page!)

Hey everybody! Hope that you are all well and happy!!

I was doing lots of reflection this week. I do that sometimes haha. But I was thinking about the difference between past me and present me. Those of you that know me know that I've always been kind of a negativeish person. I'm more of a glass half empty kind of guy. Well, way back in the day when I was still young. Ahem. I used to get pretty depressed pretty easily. Maybe it was just teenage hormones but after two years of talking with tons of people every day it seems to me that it still applies all over the place. There are tons of people that get super depressed and sad for all kinds of reasons. Sometimes it's decisions, sometimes it's circumstances, sometimes it's just life. Well, I was looking back on my mission and I realized that right now I am the happiest that I have ever been in my life. I am actually happy. The difference? It'll probably sound pretty cliche but its been for me, living the simple principles of the gospel. I never really used to do anything with real intent. I almost never read the scriptures and when I did it was usually for like some kind of crisis or something like that. Or I never really prayed correctly. I never used to kneel down, or really pray with real intent. And now, every day, I am testifying of these small and simple things that I have come to know. Just a few tiny things and my entire perspective on life is completely different. So I guess that's my invitation for this week. I don't care where you are at, or what you are doing or how old your are, live the simple principles of the gospel, and with time you will see the difference in your life. Maybe we are studying things that are too complex, maybe we are not studying with real intent, or maybe we are not studying at all. Those are all things that I have done at one time or another and now I know not to do them. Sorry for preaching. I want you guys to know that I love you and that for this reason, I invite you to do these things.

But hey, that's the spiritual stuff for this week. Now for the funny story..

There I was standing in the street like always. Well I guess I wasn't standing but I was walking in the street like always. On that day I almost hadn't talked to anyone. Usually as missionaries we try to talk with random people throughout the day to see if they will be interested and all that stuff. Well, there I was walking and I hadn't talked to anyone and I saw this lady. She was walking pretty slow and I thought to myself, oh perfect this lady is totally gonna accept our message. I walked up to her and I said, Hey could I give you a card with a  picture of Jesus on it? Sure she said! And before I could get another word out a freaking car pulls up and without saying anything she got in the car and left. I was like what the heck just happened. But yeah pretty weird stuff. Also one time this lady told me that if I died in Mexico that the people that buried me would cut my eyes out and sell them because they are blue. Well that was some great everyday side conversation topic. But yeah. Stuff happens.

Have a good week everyone!

Week Eighty Three

Elder Clifford, President Egginton and Elder Suarez

Hey family this week was great!

I haven't shared a funny story in a while so I'll get straight to the good stuff. This week we were in the house of a part member family and we were teaching them. They are kind of older of age. This sister is awesome because she likes to make cake and always gives us a bunch of food when we go over to their house to teach them. So there we were in their house, eating cake, and then the sister ran into the kitchen and she came back out with even more food. I was like whoa this is awesome we come here to teach them and they feed us. So I started eating the watermelon that she gave us and by accident I coughed very quietly, like you almost couldn't hear that cough. The sister went crazy! Elder!! You have a cold! You cannot eat watermelon or you will die. I sat there in shock with my mouth open because I had no idea what was going on. Before I could react she took the watermelon away from me and went back to the kitchen. I sat there and then when what was happening registered in my brain I looked at my companion. We just looked at each other and laughed for a solid minute and went back to teaching. The sister kept scolding me the rest of the lesson for not having told her that I was ahem ahem ¨sick¨. So yeah I guess that happened.

Other than that we had some great work this week and our investigator pool never stops growing. We find people and by these people we are finding more and its a never ending pattern.

That's about all I've got for you guys this week.
