Week Thirty Four

Not sure how but one time we locked ourselves in the house with the keys outside in the door.

The weeks pass by so fast sometimes. Let’s see what happened...

Did I already mention that we received a golden investigator this week? Last Sunday after services we saw this lady leaving the church that we had never seen before so we ran up and talked to her for a bit. We asked her if she was a member and she was like
“No no, my friend invited me to come around a month ago and I came. I knew that this was the right church for me from the minute I walked in. So I’ve been coming every week for the last month.”
“Oh are the sister missionaries visiting you?”
”No nobody has visited me.”
“Where do you live?”
“Velasco.”
A minute of thinking from me and my comp…..
“Oh Zass, that’s in our area! Is it alright if we come by and visit you and your friend in like  2 hours?”
“Sure that would be fine.”
We went taught the restoration and she told us that her friend showed her the movie and told her she should pray to know if it’s true and that she had already prayed and that she knew it was true and she wanted to know how she could join the church.  Well needless to say we set a baptismal date and we’ve been by to visit her every day. Pretty amazing to see how we receive answers to prayers sometimes.

Anyways this week was crazy.  I gave like 3 or 4 priesthood blessings and I ordained someone to the office of a priest all on Saturday and Sunday. The first blessing was really awkward and clumsy because I wasn’t quite sure if I should talk in tu or usted and I was busy thinking about what to say and honestly I didn’t really listen for the spirit to help me out. I felt really nervous and everything so afterwards I took some time to think about how I would give a blessing if it was in English and how my dad used to give me blessings back home and  I lost all my nervousness about it. 2 hours later I was randomly asked by another sister to bless her sick mother in the hospital. We ran to the hospital and I started to get nervous again so while the nurse was fixing everything for the sick lady I went into the hall and said a prayer. Afterwards I felt calmed down and ready to do it so I went in and all the words came perfectly, and I didn’t have to think about what I should say and I didn’t worry about it either. It was a great experience.

That’s about all I’ve got for this week. Everybody have a good week and be safe and all that.

Week Thirty Three

Elder Clifford didn't have time to send a letter this week, although he was able to reply to some of his siblings emails.  He also was able to send a picture of him looking pretty excited about getting caught in a rain storm!

Hello how are you. Did you have a fun week. I'm doing good with my grades except for english. I'm getting way better French. Do they even have deacons and teachers and priests corums there. Have you ever come to a house with a TV. When is the last time you did a talk. Have a more fun week.
Love Carter

Hey, how are you doing? Did you have a good week? Barcelona won today in the El Clasico match against Madrid 2-1. Our tennis team so far is 4-0 in our preseason games. We face Syracuse on Tuesday, and our coach is confident that we will win. I think we will. Spring break is in a week, which will be fun. School is going pretty well, but I might get another 3.5 or 3.6, which stinks.
See ya!

They have the quorums but they teach them all together.  Almost every house has a tv I think. My last talk was 2 months ago. Try to get your grades up to like a 3.8. I don't remember what I finished high school with but try to beat that gpa. Good luck in your match.

Hi how are you? Did you do anything interesting this week?  I had a clogging competition in St. George Friday and Saturday.  I won first in all four of my dances again.
LOVE, KAPREE

That's awesome. Maybe you'll get to go to one of the huge competitions that they have or something.

Week Thirty Two

Happy Monday!!

This week it was raining like crazy, so as an effect a bunch of the streets are flooded. It was actually kind of cold a couple of the days. Never expected that it could get cold in Mexico.

This week I did a little bit of study on humility and pride apart from my normal studies. I’ve gotta admit that at times I think a little bit more about the things that I want then what the Lord wants. Something that I’ve definitely been actively thinking about this week. So as a replacement for my excessive pridefulness I’ve tried really hard to be charitable. Basically tried to think about everyone but me and it actually helped a lot. The more we think about ourselves and our problems the worse they usually seem. If we could just take some time every day, and as a missionary I should be doing it all day every day, and think about someone else and their needs we get so much more work done and we would be way happier too. So if you want something to study this week I wold focus on charity or humility. Look for someone to serve during the week.

Love you guys a lot!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes!

Bonus Letters between Elder Clifford and his little brother Carter (three weeks worth)

Hi, How are you doing. Saturday we won our futsal game again. we are now first. we lost in Church ball by 1 point. Have you ever had to pass the sacrament? Are their a lot of Deacons? Do they have Taco Trucks there? I hope you have a good week. Love Carter

I passed the sacrament this Sunday actually. There aren't any Deacons. We have 2 Teachers and 0 Priests. I'll take a picture some time, they are kind of like taco trucks but are more kind of like taco trailers or taco stands. There are a lot of them.

Hi. This week i won my futsal game 12 to 3. we won in churchball. Do they do fast offerings there? We have an A/B day at school on tuesday. Do you ever get to teach classes at church? I got a hair cut this week but no one could tell. I also got new cleats yesterday. How was your week? Did you get more pizza? What kind of fast food restraunts do they have there? Bye
Love Carter

I'm pretty sure that they do fast offerings here but I'm pretty sure that the people just bring them to church.  Yes, I teach classes at church. They have every type of fast food I think but they just don't have them in my mission or something. We have a Dominos and gas stations that don't sell gas.

Happy Birthday on Saturday. Did you have fun this week? We came in 2nd in futsal. We start outdoor in April. What are the peoples houses like in mexico? Have you seen any Mansions? Do you walk far to get to your Church? Have a good week
Love carter

the biggest house I've ever seen was the size of our house. I walk for 30 minutes to go to church. I don't know how to explain the houses. They are made of brick usually.

Week Thirty One

Hope everyone’s doing well this week. Here in Acambaro we had a little bit of a rough go but I’m still really happy with the way things are going.

This week to start off we went around searching for less active members again. We had a couple of great lessons and we’re hoping that we will see these people in church over the next few weeks.

Focus of study: This week I’m going to put some time into the subject of revelation and more specifically personal revelation. I want to more actively recognize revelation in my day to day work.

Funny experience of the week: Super funny actually. We were teaching this awesome family one of the ays this week and around mid lesson the youngest kid fell asleep. We were talking about the great apostasy more in detail because they had a lot of questions and all of a sudden the kid woke up and jumped on the table and started dancing. Haha he kept on going for a solid minute and then he jumped down and went back to sleep as if nothing had happened. I think the funniest part is when I realized that this must be a normal thing because no one in the family said anything about it. They just nodded their heads and kept going with the lesson. It was pretty hard not to laugh out loud but somehow we made it by. I’ll keep my eyes open for some more funny stuff this week. Something’s bound to happen.

Hope everybody has a great week!

Week Thirty

Greetings from Acambaro!

I get to spend at least another 6 weeks here and I’m really excited to see how they go. Hopefully very well.

This week was a pretty good week. To start off the week I went in divisions with Elder Wright. We’re from the same generation so it was pretty fun to work with a friend of mine from the MTC. He’s a great Elder and he does a great job teaching wise. We visited a few of my investigadores and they were pretty great lessons. Tons of people following through on commitments this week! The only one they kind of faulted on was the going to church. Yeah the most important but still great to see that they are reading the Book of Mormon and following through with prayers.

Brings me to my funny experience…...  So a few weeks ago a girl walked up to us in the street and said that she thought that I was very lindo and that she wanted to be friends with me. I wasn’t quite sure what she was getting at to be honest, so I just said, “Well, we’re missionaries and we can’t really do stuff like that. If you want though you could come visit our church some time though.” We gave her the directions and time and everything. I never thought in a million years that she would actually go. Well, she went last week and she brought 3 friends. They all really liked the service and asked if they could come again. Yeah, of course. We taught them during the week, gave them the restoration pamphlet and invited them to come again. She came back with more friends and she actually answered all of the questions on the pamphlet thing and asked tons of questions about Joseph Smith and the priesthood and stuff. It was crazy.  We’ll see how things go these next few weeks but wow funny experience. You never really know the people who turn out to be great investigators, they just kind of show up sometimes. Well as far as I can see she’s interested.

But yeah, good week. Hope all is well back home.
